Wine

Aromas and aging potential

The Grüner Veltliner is a very multifarious wine. Its spectrum ranges from very light summer wine to ice wine. Furthermore, the flavor also depends on the origin, maternity and age of the wine.

Summer wine

For this type of wine, the grapes are picked very early. At this time the aromas are not pronounced, which results in flavors of unripe fruits and lemony freshness. Compared to powerful wines a summer wine ages rapidly.

The classic

Veltliner with 12% vol. are the most common wine. These wines go very well with each food, and cover a wide range of flavors. This can reach from green-peppery spice via herbs to exotic fruits.

The strength

The milder the acidity is, the more spicy the Grüner Veltliner becomes. The primary fruit aromas are in the background; the maturity of the grapes harvested at a very late time of the season is tasted and comes into the foreground.

Loess Veltliner

Loess is a coarse, firmly pressed sand, which has a very good water holding capacity.

Primary rocks

Gföhler gneiss and shale is the ground of many wines. The cool air and the fall winds from the forest, provide a top quality. If the primary rocks cave already be inhaled in the smell together with exotic mars and peppery spice, everyone knows on which ground the wine has grown.

Sweet wine

As a sweet-wine, the Grüner Veltliner is not very common. The Grüner Veltliner as an ice wine sometimes appears in the Weinviertel, but the Grüner Veltliner is rarely to be found as berry wine or dry wine of selected grapes. The frost note, which results from fresh mushrooms, is typical of the ice wine. A successful berry wine of selected grapes includes flavours of tabaacco and exotic fruits. A successful sweet wine disposes of pronounced acidity and mineral nuances.

Ripe Veltliner

In Austria the wines are usually consumed when they are fresh and young. There is no difference with powerful wines there is no different. But when is a Grüner Veltliner considered ripe and how long can it mature? Conditions for a mature Veltliner are ripe grapes with harmonious acidity. Powerful wines can be stored longer than light ones. Whether a wine becomes better trough storage depends on the wine, because bad wine does not become better, and also vice versa. The handling of a ripe Grüne Veltliner is very difficult.
