The interplay of the varietal and the soil is very important. If the varietal stands on an unsuitable soil, it will have a negative effect on the taste and on the harvest.

Different types of GV

• Loess soil – spicy, peppery, strong, rich in extracts

• Sand soil – elegant, slender structure

• Primary rock soil – fruity, structured, mineral

• Clay soil – wide, heavy, rich in extracts

Loess and clay soils harmonize best with the Grüner Veltliner.
 

Cultivation

Every cultivation strategy is a considerable intervention in the soil system. Therefore it is important to avoid strategies with a negative effect.
